When a space has a third dimension — height — you can calculate both area and volume. Volume is measured in cubic feet (ft³) and is used for paint, concrete, fill material, and storage.
A room 12 ft long, 10 ft wide, and 9 ft tall has a floor area of 120 sq ft and a volume of 1,080 cu ft. Use the height field to calculate wall area and volume for HVAC, paint, or fill estimates.

For a 12 × 10 ft room with 9-ft ceilings: 2 × 9 × (12 + 10) = 396 sq ft of total wall area (before subtracting windows and doors).
How to Calculate Area and Volume
- Measure length and width: The floor dimensions in feet.
- Measure height (ceiling): Floor-to-ceiling height in feet.
- Calculate area: Length × Width for the floor or ceiling.
- Calculate volume: Length × Width × Height for the room volume.
